Mid 1980's - Brett Anderson (guitar) and Mat Osman (bass) form band called Geoff with Gareth Perry on vocals and Danny Wilder on drums


Late 1980's - Geoff split when Brett and Mat move to London


Late 1980's - New band formed with architecture student Justine Frischmann called Suave and Elegant with Brett on vocals, Mat on bass and Justine on rhythm guitar


1989 - Bernard Butler joins as lead guitarist and band change name to Suede


1990 - Early Suede demo 'Wonderful Sometimes' wins Greater London Radio song contest several weeks in a row


1990 - Justin Welch (later Elastica) joins band on drums for recording sessions but leaves shortly after


1991 - Mike Joyce (ex-Smiths) joins band on drums and as producer of their debut single 'Be My God' but leaves shortly after - 'Be My God' is never released


1991 - Simon Gilbert joins as new drummer


1991 - Justine Frischmann leaves band to form Elastica


1991 - Suede are Brett Anderson (vocals), Bernard Butler (guitar), Mat Osman (bass), Simon Gilbert (drums)


1992 - Suede sign deal with Nude Records label


1992 - Debut single 'The Drowners' released - charts at number 49


1992 - First ever festival performance - Reading Festival
